I clearly remember the introduction
to the old Superman TV series where Superman would swoop in and save the
day. “Disguised as mild-mannered
reporter, Clark Kent, this man of steel fights a never ending battle for truth,
justice and the American Way.” I don’t know, maybe I’ve become a little
cynical, but it sometimes appears to me that the American Way has become
anything but about truth and justice. Maybe there is a lot about political
correctness, or getting MY way, but truth? Well, you know what I mean. Truth and its brother justice
constantly suffer from almost every circle.
Politicians look you straight in the eye and say anything to advance their own agenda. Speeches about their stand in one area of the country are totally reversed in other areas according to what they perceive people want to hear. Why not just tell the truth?
News reporters and entire news organizations “shade” the truth to present a picture they want you to see. In my journalism classes, there was a fitting term for that; it was called “yellow journalism.” I can’t think of anything more cowardly---“yellow”, if you please, than for a reporter to deceive people with lies! Many who do write with integrity---tell the truth---are shouted down with cries of “insensitivity.” Don’t be fooled, what you don’t know WILL hurt you!
Drug companies hide clinical studies deceiving millions in the quest for profits. I don’t know about the rest of the populace, but my readers are smart enough to know that there are risks with ANY medication. Just tell me the truth and I will weigh my risks against my needs.
The courts of our land are openly and blatantly based on “legal or illegal” not on what is “right and wrong.” Lawyers openly admit they are not interested in whether a client is innocent, but only that they can maneuver the proceedings to a “not guilty” verdict. Don’t give me that “everybody deserves a vigorous defense” mumbo-jumbo! While that is true in principle it has been twisted to “innocent” the “guilty” far too often! Pedophiles go free; murder walks, embezzlement slides by, and all suffer for it. Makes me wanta’ puke. (Sorry, can I say that?)
The Bible records a time that; ”every man did that which was right in His own eyes.” And also a time when; “every thought was evil continually.” Is that becoming the American Way?
Even preachers get into pulpits every Sunday and proclaim teachings that their own seminaries are denouncing. Biblical scholars in nearly every denomination the world over are denouncing the doctrine of “salvation by faith only” as not true and yet you still hear the “only believe”, “Just accept Christ as personal Savior” still pouring forth. Why? Why? It is so hard to see clearly the truth and admit one has been wrong. Strong delusions have always contended with the truth (2 Thessalonians 2:11, 12). The TRUTH is that even the devil believes and shakes in his boots at the thought, but that belief sure doesn’t save him. (James 2:19) James says that is a “dead faith”; “muerto”, lifeless, no good! And yet people in the pew have the mindset of “don’t confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up.” No surprise; Paul told Timothy that the time would come when people would only tolerate teachers telling them what they wanted to hear and turn away from the TRUTH preferring to listen to myths. (2 Tim. 4:3)
“Fake Healers” lead people away with false hope, based on lies, while lining their pockets with millions. They look like, act like, and live like rock stars instead of the Serving Savior they purport to preach. Combine the income of those “false prophets” and we could pay the national debt in one year. Worst of all, their false promises leave people disillusioned and bitter, and blaming God. So many are taken in with those lies it is disgusting to watch. Sorry, they remind me more of the devil and his angels that the Christ and His disciples!
Makes me think of the lyrics to the “Old McDonald” song “Here chick, there chick—“ well, you know. “Here lies, there lies, everywhere lies, lies” The American Way may be coming to a point of following some philosophers who claim there is no such thing as “truth.” They blabber about “Truth is what you want it to be” or some such nonsense. Make no mistake, ignoring the truth always leads to disaster! Throughout history nations have done it, armies have done it and individuals have done it. You can live with a lie for a while but eventually “truth will out.”
Let me ask you this. If you went to your doctor with a terrible but curable disease, would you want him to lie to you and give you a false sense of security? No, of course not! You would want him to tell you the truth and prescribe a proper course of cure. That is exactly the situation with our present welfare and eternal destination. The truth is that without Jesus Christ and obedience to His will, everything is indeed bleak!
I know that this is not a “feel good” piece. But it should be! One should be lifted, truly lifted, by the TRUTH. And the only way I can be your friend is to tell you the truth.
The truth is that the Bible is right, read it! Take it for the truth that it is! Do as it says! The disease of sin is deadly---but curable!
“You shall know the TRUTH and the TRUTH will make you free.” (John 8:32) Now that’s a promise that will lift you up and make you feel good! That’s the truth that will make “Superman” out of ordinary people. That’s the real way to truth, justice and the American way! By: Jim Kelly, His Servant.
